The tradition continues…
On 11-16 August 2009 in Sopot will take place Gasshuku 2009.
The International Summer Camp Gasshuku 2009 will be held by the world’s top Traditional Karate Masters. The Specialized Kumite course will be held by Sensei Avi Rokah 6 Dan ITKF from Los Angeles (USA) – student and assistant of Sensei Hidetaka Nishiyama. The 2009 Gasshuku program has been expanded with the Competition Training with athletes from the National Team of Poland. This training will be conducted by Sensei Krzysztof Neugebauer 5 Dan ITKF – three times winner of the ITKF World Cup, world champion in team kumite, repeated medallist of the ITKF World and the European Championships in team kata. For the coordination of the 2009 Gasshuku will be responsible Sensei Włodzimierz Kwieciński 7 Dan ITKF – chief coach of the national team of Poland, Chairman of Traditional Karate Federation of Poland, Vice-President of the International Traditional Karate Federation and the European Traditional Karate Federation.
Gasshuku 2009 will take place at the sport hall "100-lecia" (Goyki Street 7) in Sopot. On 13 August will take place the Traditional Karate League of Poland 2009 – final tournament.
Sopot – called „the summer capital of Poland“ – is a small resort on the Bay of Gdańsk, between Gdańsk and Gdynia. Sopot belongs among the most charming Polish towns and the most beautiful resorts on the Baltic Sea. The town’s atmosphere is equally enchanting at any time of the year. The town’s unique atmosphere is created by the exceptional places Sopot proudly presents to its guests.
Europe’s longest wooden pier cuts over 511m into the sea. Built in the 1820s – initially as a wooden jetty – it is the most readily recognized signature sight of the town, drawing in tourist crowds like a magnet.
The street that runs straight down to the pier – the Bohaterów Monte Cassino Street, popularly referred to as „Monciak“ – is a city promenade famous all over Poland. It is flanked on both side by atmospheric townhouses, art galleries, pubs and cafes. This pedestrian walk. Over 600m long, makes Sopot’s main artery which, especially in summer, turns into a colourful bustling river of Sopot-loving tourist crowds.
Opera Leśna (the Forest Opera) – an amphitheatre each year hosts famous classical and pop music performers. Its stage provided the scene for such stars as James Brown, Whitney Houston, Annie Lenox, Sir Elton John, Lionel Richie, Bryan Adams or Simply Red. For over 40 years the stage of Opera Leśna has provided the venue for the Sopot Festival and the Opera Festival.
